Me and a couple of buddies finally pulled the trigger on the top chop on my 49 Dodge B1C Pilothouse pickup this weekend. We got the top off, and have the main pieces tacked back in. Another work weekend in two weeks. Yeah, we eliminated 4.5 inches below those windows. The truck had broken flat glass, but both corner glasses were in good shape and are saved carefully on the bench for reuse. It actually is going to create a bit of nice balance as the back windows will be stock, but almost the same size as the new chopped side door windows (with my arm in them!). Very happy with the back, but the top and doors are the hard part as we are dealing with some slope/width differences that we are going to have to be very careful with as we refit everything. Robin
Well, after looking at ALL of the pictures I would officially say that is one well documented project! Looks very cool! Until a year ago I owned a 1950 B2B Pilothouse. I traded it to a friend for his '39 Ford. My wife is still not happy about that and still talks about wanting that truck back. I'd previously seen pictures of another Pilothouse that had also been chopped and thought it looked pretty good. Keep posting updates I'm enjoying following your progress! Jay
Robin Any more updates on your truck's Chop top. I bought my 51 a couple of weeks ago and it is in pieces and will under go the electric knife soon. I like what Bud Aka MoparMan4GZUZ did to his last year as well. Still looking what I will use as a Chasis still; Stock, 79 powerwagon, or 84 ferd F250 with a Crown Vic front suspension with a diesel Engine Make unk at this time.
