Hopefully These pics work. I got some aluminum diamond plate for free and decided I needed to make a seat for the Beater.
First, Make a cardboard template. I used the Speedway catalog for basic dimensions and went at it.

Next, it was time to mark some 'plate. I carefully dis-assembled my template and painted the outline on the plate w/Krylon. This gave me a crisp line to follow with the Sawzall.

Here are the cut pieces...the next step requires the use of very advanced specialty tools......

Bending the backrest. I used a very rare big friggin tree and even rarer ratchet straps to do this highly advanced metal shaping technique. A littl heat and big rubber mallet helped it along nicely.

All bent and set up for welding. My buddy Same Shirt Steve TIG welded the parts together and even threw a quick polish on it. He rocks.

After being inspected by the boss, I installed it with some fab'd brackets made out of 1/4"x1" strap and held down with polished stainless button-heads. Now, go make yer own.

Yep, that and my dog, Cozmo. Built the bike a couple years ago just to do it and it prolly has more miles on than my car!

I think I'll try one outta steel and rivet it together and add some steel strap ribs across the back held on with rivets. Would prolly look more correct.
The diamond plate was free so that's what I used.

I have some tan pleather (from a Jeep soft top) that I'm gonna make a pad out of. It will be laced right to the seat w/leather laces through eyelets. I think it'll look pretty cool. That's this weekend's project.

  15. Nice work Pete..........remember seeing that seat in the back of Matt's truck at the HAMB Chop........looked really good.......look forward to seeing your ride next spring with all the little changes like these seats!! :)

Be sure to post pics of it with the cushion. It looks great already tho'. I'll add it to the list of projects I have to try immediately but have no real use for at the moment. :D
