This one popped up on the NHRA list this morning. Vintage video from Long Island International. It's all pretty decent stuff, but the kicker comes at the 6-minute mark - funny car racing... in the snow!...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
This just reinforces the fact that I was born 20 years too late......and that NHRA drag racing today just sucks....... Thanks alot.......
Saw that in a thread here on the Hamb earlier this week... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=228509&highlight=long+island&page=104 #2065 Damn Ryan,Bdays must be catchin up with ya.Scooped again!
thats a wild video. thanks for the post ryan. at about 3:30 is a friend of mine racing his superstock 68 cobrajet, the white "rye ford" car. hes from westchester new york, and still has the damn thing.
Thanks for that one. Wow. Yep that's an E-Type Jag all cut up. I'd never have seen it ....Holy Crap 2000 + posts on the other thread. I thought I'd been out at the track in some pretty crummy weather until I saw the snow piles in that video. At first I thought, no way. Imagine how hard it would have been to hookup. Esp. without the sticky stuff we have today and the old tire compounds. Might as well throw some water out there for them to slide on.
Thanks, Ryan, that was really cool. I actually saw a field of eight race floppers in the snow at Penwell (your stomping grounds) in about 1970.Dick Harrell was there!!
1940ad, there is some footage of Island somewhere on You Tube. i think it was on The Hamb last year but can't find it at the moment. for stills theres wediditforlove.com. this stuff gets me antsy for spring.
Hey Ryan, thanks for the trip down memory lane. When I was a kid my dad used to take me out to New York National Speedway, and I saw alot of those same cars. Sinister Custom, you're right - films like this show us what's wrong with the NHRA today. (Maybe I wasn't born 20 years too early, after all!!)
