Just wanted to get an idea of what is out there. I have used the K anN oil filter a couple times (HP 3002). I just wanted to seee what other options were out there? Thanks J
I used Royal Purple with the RP filter in my old SBC 327. Depends on if you wanna put out that kind of money though.
If you guys can remember that part numbers that would be super helpful just because I have to crossreference them with the Canadian numbers.
If your store can't cross a wix or napa part number, you need a new store.
http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51794
NAPA Gold #1061 = 5.18" tall and is 1 quart, #1794 = 7.82" tall and is 2 quart, if you have room Regards, X
AC Delco filters are now made in China buy small children. I wouldn't touch one. Buy NAPA Gold or Wix.
It's been years since I messed with chevys... Back then, they were still made here in the United States of America....
I dont think these are to be used for normal street driving due to the fact that these filters have really fine screens that will clog. More of a drag race filter that can be washed after a few passes.
NAPA gold works well some of the fellas like WIX. With the assumption that you are using a spin on filter and you want an oversized filter what you want to get is a filter for a ton or better truck in any brand that you like.
Years ago the word was that Fram decided to put their money in advertising while Wix / Napa put the money in product development and quality.
Chrysler used to install frams on the assembly line back in the day... They were great at one time...
Fram dropped in quality for a while. I am sure that they have seen the error of their ways and beefed up quality control. I still use fram filters I have never had an issue with them as others have. That said I don't usually tout fram it ruffels too many feathers. Someone once said to choose your battles, I can find better places to ruffle feathers. Something to be aware of is that most filters are made off shore any more and if you have ever been involved in manufacturing you know that one plant will manufacture many varieties with a labeling change to make them brand specific.
A solid looking set up, Do you lose a quart of oil every time you clean the screen out ? Does it clean easy with solvent or brake cleaner ? Thanks.
If your running a high performance engine you would want a WIX/Napa 1060R, It does not have a by pass if I remember correctly so if your not running a HP engine you just want a wix/NAPA Gold 160...wix filters are by far the best on the market! I have heard that Fram has gotten better over the past few years but you can test it your self run 3000 miles on a fram and look at the oil then 3000 on the NAPA Gold/wix and see what how clean the oil is...The results will speak for them selves...There are only so many things you can do to protect your engine and make it last longer, why spare the minimal expense for something that is generally done 1 to 2 times a year in a hotrod?
I also got into a good habit of filling the oil filter with oil before screwing it in place.. That keeps your engine from running dry when you start it after an oil change... That was my tip of the day...
