His equals call him, "Gene." His old friends call him, "Windy." I call him, "Mr. Winfield." Considering all he has done for the hot rod and custom world and recognizing just how far up I have to look to see that genuine smile of his, I don't know if ...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
The course I took with Mr. Winfield was great, and for the last hour or so of the last day we all just sat around throwing questions at him. The man is an encyclopedia. This is an amazing opportunity.
I think i've met Gene at least 3 times in Austin this year and then in Salina, KS both in 2010 (first time i ever met him and he wanted to get a pic w/ me and my bro! woo hoo!) and then this year again! He is a cool guy w/ Definately lots of knowledge! Not say, a good dancer! hehe! he was dancing his legs off at the KKOA leadsled spectacular w/ a cute blonde and i got lots of pics! Sucha good - spirited guy, so happy he's made it this way to our site
Gene stayed at my house when he used to come out east for a car show in "Woosta" MA. The stories that he has are priceless. His energy is off the charts and he is an inspiration. A true living legend.
Really cool Ryan!! Nice to see you have heard the concerns of the customs guys on the site and have gone above and beyond to do something about it. This is what really makes this site the best the fact that you really do care about the members and take the time to listen to them. Thanks!!!
I have a question for Gene. Why is it that every time I see him (over 100 times I'm sure) he looks at me with that blank stare that says "who is this guy?" but when he sees my wife he runs right up and gives her the total body smash hug and acts like he's just reunited with his high school sweetheart? Quite the ladies man. She's married Gene.
Like you said, you don't do anything half ass'd What a great person/craftsman/ icon to have on the HAMB! Welcome Mr Winfield!
I'm looking forward to meeting him soon in Cincinnati. He is chopping my 49 Ford at the Cavalcade Show in January. I've never heard a bad word about the man and who can't look up to a guy like Gene. It will be an honor to watch him slice the roof off that old shoebox.
Hey Alex, I was at one of Gene's classes and his apprentice "New York" John was passing around pics. One of your cars popped up, and somebody asked who the hell Gambino was. Gene perked up and said "He's a modern day lengend, kinda like I was" Man, what a compliment. Just thought you'd like to hear that.
Wow. this is gonna be great. I am lucky enough to have talked with him a few times and I would love to get one of his classes someday in the future. What a legend and great guy!!
Took one of his chop classes in Oklahoma, looking forward to taking another sometime. Amazing guy that can outwork people a 1/4 his age with grace. Tried to talk the wife into letting me fly to Cali for the '58 section before meeting back with her for Thanksgiving. Not going to happen though.
Thanks. My comments were directed towards the fact that in another thread Ryan had indicated he didn't feel he had given the custom side of this site as much effort as it deserved and imporving that was part of his thought process in getting Gene on board.
