The Timing Tag Collection Of Fran Hernandez

The Timing Tag Collection Of Fran Hernandez

Now this is pretty amazing… Yesterday, I got an email from Randy Hernandez. Randy is the son of one of the most important figures in the history of hot rodding – Francisco Hernandez. The other day he was going through some of his father’s old stuff and found his collection of timing tags. Apparently, Fran either collected timing tags from his buddies or the group as a whole traded them around – we aren’t sure which.

What I am sure of, however, is that this is the most impressive timing tag collection that I think I’ve ever seen. To me, what makes it so cool is that it is based primarily on Russetta tags from 1949. See, at the time Fran was competing mostly with his ’32 3-window coupe… And if you had a coupe and wanted to compete with it, Russetta was your only option as the SCTA didn’t allow coupes until 1951.

Anyway, feast your eyes on this:

Special thanks to Randy Hernandez for sharing this history. It’s as glorious as it is important.
