A Mild-Fine Chevy Bel Air

A Mild-Fine Chevy Bel Air

1950-1952 Chevrolet Bel Air models make really nice customs with seemingly little work… The natural lines of the Chevy hardtop allow just lowering, de-chroming, and some part-swaps to go a long way. You may remember the Dietrich coupe I covered a few years ago, and the May 1957 issue of Car Craft has another period Bel Air that shows Less truly is More: Behold Damon Richey’s ’50 ‘Bel-Aire’, which is described as having a Titian Red body and Silver Orchid colored top (any color pictures out there?). The owner did all customizing including frenched & tunneled ’51 Buick taillights and ’53 Mercury headlights out front, a floating bar grille made of Chevy bits, and a clean nose and deck job. The motor is a twin-carb Corvette 6, and Old Fiesta caps complete the look. This car looks fantastic from any angle and it’s a shame there weren’t any more feature articles about this fine and mild car.
