The Last in Line…
The ’58 Edsel restyling post from yesterday reminded me of the very last in that series, which even seasoned Ford fans often don’t know about: The 1960 Edsel. You can’t blame the average car guy for not knowing this last model year existed- Only 2,846 vehicles were made. The entire Edsel line was reduced to the Ranger series (sedans, hardtops, convertibles), and the Villager station wagons. The ’60 Edsels were a sad hodgepodge of Galaxie and Fairlane bits, but with it’s own cleaner grille, hood, bumpers and taillight treatment. To make matters more ironic, the car was finally really striking in style right from the factory, but it was all too late. Obviously the extremely low production prevented very many from being customized in the early 1960s, and the Edsel name was well-tainted by that point. Why did the best looking one have the be the very last in a very short line?
