The First Round Up

I moved recently and while cleaning out my attic, I stumbled across a box of old pictures from the early days of The Jalopy Journal – Some real gold in the form of poorly taken film images stored in 24 hour developing company envelopes. One of the envelopes featured images taken while Tardel and I roamed the very first Round Up at House Park in Austin, TX.

The second coming of the Round Up is just around the corner, so I thought it would be appropriate to post these today. What strikes me most about these pictures is not how quaint the Round Up used to be, but how fun the field was in general – No high dollar show boats, just cars built to be driven with an eye on fun. I love that. And in a way, I miss that about this thing of ours.
