The Don Chase Tub

The Don Chase Tub

Gonna be a crazy week… It starts with our book release party on Thursday night and it’s capped by the Lone Star Round Up over the weekend. But who am I fooling? The Round Up really starts now. Austin is already engulfed with hot rods and customs of all types and folks seem to be arriving every hour. It’s hectic. It’s crazy. But it’s also fun…

In any case, this week might get slim on The Jalopy Journal from a content stand point. There’s just no telling what might or might not pull me out of my dungeon in the country and into the big city lights of Austin. I’m gonna start it out strong though…

The Don Chase tub. There’s nothing I can say about this car that the pictures don’t already tell ya… It’s just a clean and simple hot rod. Take a model-a tub, add a 2.75″ dropped axle, remove a leaf or two from the spring packs, and then throw on some tube shocks as well as juice brakes all the way around. Bookmark all that with big and little rubber and you got yourself a proper stance.

Of course, to avoid being a poser you gotta add a hot mill. Don did this by way of a ’48 Merc motor that was both bored and stroked. A hot Isky cam along with Edelbrock heads and a 4-deuce Edelbrock intake made the mixture and a Kong ignition lit it all. It was good enough for 94 mph in the quarter.

There is some “cutesy” shit as well. I happen to really like the huge Chevrolet truck bumpers on the car and it’s also pretty hard for me to argue against the Packard dash that Don used. Details make the man, right? Don was ok by me…

Anyway, enjoy the shots:
