Meteor Strike

Meteor Strike

This day in age, meteor strikes are a rare occurrence. They’re out of the ordinary and have monumental impacts. Although drawing the correlation is a bit of a stretch, I’ll argue that this 1951 Mercury Meteor was a rarity on the strip — even if it didn’t draw a whole lot of attention.

The quirky little Canadian Merc, campaigned by the team of Evans and Hamilton, sported all the right componentry of the era. With a transversely mounted I-beam, mags, steelies and heavy-duty traction bars, the sedan stood tall and proud despite its unorthodox body style.

Even if the whole four-door gasser guise isn’t for you, the Merc’s mill is bound to garner a second glance. Beneath the H/Gasser’s tilt front end sat a full race Flathead with a long tube fuel injection setup. Headers, fins and rubber balls — this car wasn’t messing around.

Other than these two shots that I stumbled across on the H.A.M.B., not much else is out there about this unique sedan.

So I’ll ask you this: with suitable iron growing scarcer each day, is this a setup we will see more of in the coming years?
