Just ‘A’ Comp Coupe

Just ‘A’ Comp Coupe

Now and again, I sift through pictures that I have stored through the years with thoughts of sharing them with you all.

More often than not, I fill out a mental checklist to convince myself that the images are strong enough to make the cut. But today’s snapshot fails to meet a number of those guidelines.

To kick things off, I’m not sure where the picture was taken or who triggered the shutter. And whomever it was, they must have had equal interest in the winch system on the trailer in the foreground as they did in the car itself (sic).

They did, however, succeed at capturing the essence of the artfully diced Model ‘A’ coupe in all its early ’60s glory. Dig the Americans up front, polished mags out back and Enderle Barn Door injection with a mailbox scoop. With a drilled sun visor and neatly-built chassis, the royal blue ‘A’ must have been a threat on the strip and the show circuit. I have visions of white rock,  angel hair and a neatly lettered sign.

Other than the obviously striking comp coupe, my main reason for featuring this picture is the lack of lettering anywhere. Sure, the Pontiac out in the back 40 has some on its quarters, but I’ll bet you can’t read it either.

This image is fresh. It’s a bit cluttered, but that exaggerates the car’s simplicity. Besides, it’s just ‘A’ comp coupe, isn’t it?
