Finding the factory secret compartments…

These days you read about all sorts of crazy border-crossing drug busts where narcotics were found in a differential cover or under the dash of a smuggler’s pick up. Most of us with old cars know that our vehicles often have random compartments in some place that have no clear purpose, other than being a cool secret cavity left by the manufacturer for us to find. For instance, my dad had told me that under the rear armrests in his ’48 Studebaker Starlight Coupe were hidden metal bins, proving the perfect place to stash cold drinks on ice. They even had drain holes at the bottom so the melted ice water could drain out! Most of you late 1930s Ford owners know about this one, but my ’39 Mercury has two wood covers on the floor of the trunk under the carpet, revealing deep wells to store tools in, presumably… If you didn’t know they were there, you’d have a hard time finding them, honestly. Alright, I’ve shared a few of my secret stash stories, so where are the hidden gems in your car?
