Texans On The Quarter Mile

Texans On The Quarter Mile

Bob Doty was a young man in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. He had  a passion for both drag racing and photography. Recently, he sent me an email and asked if I would be interested in peaking his collection of photographs taken as he toured the state of Texas and visited just about every damned drag strip the best state had to offer. I jumped at the opportunity and holy hell – am I glad I did.

Probably my favorite part of this job is all of the vintage images that get submitted to me on an almost daily basis. Rarely, however, do I get to enjoy a set of photographs that have been cared for and persevered as well as these. Bob’s photographs are 60 years old and yet they look as if they were developed just yesterday. Clean. Fresh. Sharp. It’s this quality that really makes the cars in these photographs speak to me. You can seemingly see every little detail.

Behold:

Amazingly, this is just  a small sample of Bob’s collection. With any luck, we will be able to get a few more from him… Stay tuned.
