It’s Not Friday, part II… Jay Shuster

Ryan’s recent post on Stefan Marjoram inspired me to share another great sketch artist who has a keen eye for all things mechanical, both by land and by air. Jay Shuster is best known as the sketch artist who designed the Anikin Podracer for Star Wars Episode I and the lovable trash-compacting robot from Pixar’s Wal-E ,not to mention designing a ton of CARS for the movie of the same name. Further digging reveals Mr. Shuster grew up in Detroit where his dad was a industrial and graphic designer for GM for 43 years, so it’s natural that he carries the same piston-driven illness as we do. I grabbed some sketches from his website, but honestly he’s done a tone more automotive stuff and it’s all amazing. His love of making furniture out of vintage aircraft salvage almost merits a post of it’s own.
