1954 La Carrera PanAmericana

Ina Mae Overman and Stanley Dean Miller were tapped by Ak Miller to run a support truck at the 1954 La Carrera PanAmericana. Ina Mae had a 1953 Ford truck, so they painted it up in team colors and headed south. As it turned out, AK didn’t need the pair after all… Blessed with the time, the two decided to film their adventure. This is it:

Technically speaking, the 1954 race was the last of the Carrera PanAmericana. When the event started in 1950, it was fielded by mostly amateurs looking to give it hell. By 1954, the field was largely professionals with big budgets and huge goals. Evidence to this – the 1954 event was won by Italian Umberto Magliol in a Ferrari with an average speed of almost 140 mph. Amazingly, Ak Miller took home fifth in his ’27 Ford Hot Rod.
