  1. I seem to be getting forgetful with old age::: note to self ....After removing the inside and outside door handles.REMOVE FINGERS FROM DOOR JAM BEFORE SLAMMING THE FREAKING DOOR!...Today it looks like I painted my fingernails kinda purple blue....the only plus is no-one was there to watch me struggle to get free or hear the screaming and swearing!!

Rusty O'Toole Getting old is cool, it`s like being high and going through withdrawal at the same time.

That made coffee come out my nose

I must be getting old 'cause it wasn't Gerber sweet potatoes coming out my nose.

If I knew I was going to live so long I would have taken better care of myself.........

  6. When I was a kid I wondered why all my older Uncles made that sound when they got out of a chair, now I make that sound!
I gotta agree with not being able to see well, I had perfect sight most of my life, now I can't read without glasses.
AND! I hate having stiff joints! At this years March Meet i swear there were 80 year olds more limber than me! Climbing up those stands is one step, stop, take another, repeat. I'm not overweight either, just getting FREAKIN' OLD!
Look on the plus side though, there are many things I just no longer care about. I don't care about impressing people, I don't care if someone else is faster, I just don't care at all what other people think. It's very liberating.

  7. At almost 70 I really regret the time I said hold my beer and watch this. They're still repairing parts 50 years later. Last thing was my knees.

For whatever reason, when she was little, my daughter always grabbed the pencil when she was drawing the family and she was coloring in my hair. A year or so ago, I went to Dunkin' Doughnuts two days in a row with the exact same order for my wife and daughter. On day two, the kid saw my hair and gave me the 10% senior discount. I'm only 53.

  9. Talking about restaurants, my wife and I went for lunch at an Islands, the girl said we could be seated at a table that seemed to be about two feet square. We said we'd wait for a booth, the girl says "Are you sure, you could sit real close like you did back IN THE OLDEN DAYS?".
Of course we remembered crossing the plains in our covered wagon, sitting close, in between Cholera epidemics and Indian attacks! My wife is 55, I'm 59!

I have been getting the seniors discount since I was 45. My hair turned gray when I was 26. I found out, if the clerk was young enough, the gray hair clinched the deal. If the clerk was too close to my age she would say "You don't look 65" My answer "I take vitamins" LOL HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

I am feeling the effects of a serious car accident 32 years ago that fractured a few bones and fractured my back so I have slowed down some,I now dread trans changes since I do not have a lift and usually feel it for a few days. I still do a bunch myself but have been farming out some work mainly when the weather is crappy so my back wont hurt and I am not rushing to do motor swaps like I did years ago.

100_2271.jpg I must be OLD, because I have the nick name Old Dude, thanks to Carlos. I call him Fonsie, and a lot of other things. Shoot, I had to show him how to take off Fender Skirts off a '53 Chevy. years ago. I said to him why are you wanting them removed ? His answer was was, he thought you were suppose to throw away. I just laughed, and ask him what he was planning on doing? He said take off hub caps, and paint wheels Red, and install Wide Whites, :)
I too have slowed down so much, I have a Lift Rack to lift cars up, and took Two Office Chairs with 5 wheels on it, to be more stable, and roll around with a low pro file aluminum jack, to do my lifting.

  14. Guess I am one of the lucky ones at the age of 73. Some years back I said I am going to need a lift in a few more years due to getting up and down seemed to take for ever. So I bought one and installed it in my shop. That was the best move I have ever made out side of my wife. Still work everyday in the shop. Building for the 3rd time my 54 Chev pickup and have a 33 sedan in the barn that needs to be built when the truck is done. Plus wifes VW rag needs motor rebuilt and a new top on it. Will do that sometime when not working on hot rods...

  15. I think realizing you aren't bulletproof- finally- why did That take so long? I'm getting over my 2nd rotator cuff repair, same shoulder, in 6 years. I guess we're lucky it's not worse- considering...

Exactly right. Somewhere along the line I lost flexibility and spaces should now be twice the size to be workable. Between chemo brain, neuropathy and cataracts it's a good thing that the project is drive able although it won't be "done" as long as I can still plan. So in an effort to actually drive places, this month is a big chemo embolism push and next month cataract surgery in both eyes. The regular chemo crap every 2 weeks I can handle so far. Well not sure brain wise:eek: A sense of humor goes a long way:Dand don't give up.

Old is a matter of perspective. I worked with an electrician 25 years ago that was 64 nearing retirement. One day he was talking about one of the first jobs he worked on and worked with an old guy master electrician. I asked him how old was the "old guy". He thought for a second then grinned and said he was 55.

I'll turn 60 this summer. I've had both knees replaced. I put a hoist in years ago but my ambition is my biggest problem.

  18. I was repeating to my wife the real funny posts on this thread...until I got to this one and I was laughing so hard I couldn't talk. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time..thanks.
As for me...I'm 66, in good health, but starting to feel the breathing effects of being a smoker for 53 years...naps are a good thing
BTW..my favorite bumper sticker...."Woodstock...I think I was there".

I worked hard all my life. Now retired with a nice shop to play in and the money to do it. It's what they call the golden years. I go out to the shop and work on the hot rods at my leasure and sometime just go out there to fall asleep in the chair. What I used to do in a week takes a month but thats OK. I'm losing my eyesight so things are getting a bit more difficult. Pain in the joints are all part of the deal. I take it the way it comes.
BUT, I've still got hotrodder friends who gladly drag me along to events or just come around the shoot the shit and thats what makes it good.

I resemble these remarks- but any day I wake up and my ex wife is making someone else miserable is a good day!

I need to start farming stuff out. Always been a do it yourselfer, that's what's made it interesting, combined with saving money for the future. I've got the money to spend now, and should before someone else gets it. Old habits die hard however, will I get what I ask for, will I be satisfied? I know one thing, I've done my last full bodywork/block/paint/cut n'buff :)

You know you're getting old when....... the girls who used to look at you and grin :D, now look at you and giggle :p. Also if you invite a young lady over for drinks and she says ok and you don't know what to say next....

  23. Another thing that gets me is when you are say under the dash of your car fixing whatever and regardless of how you tilt your head you cannot get the bifocal part of your glasses to focus on whatever it is you are working on. What a pain in the butt. I have become the Braille mechanic.

  24. At 71,I've found that a 1/4 of a Viagra tablet gets it stiff enough to not pee on my shoes...

Hey sidevalve, thanks for typing in large letters.:) Yeah, under dash is one of the worst. Sometimes I get wedged between the seat and door and it's a jail break to get free. Plenty of working room for me today but after 20 minutes of cutting I'm in for a nap, and that's with a sawsall !!

Someone else may have mentioned this---I read the thread but I don't remember. I go over to the bench and forget why I went there. But-----------------I find what I went to the bench for yesterday. My timing is just off a little, like about a day. But then I don't really care what day it is.

Hey Amarillo---get off the smokes. I quit 2 weeks ago and I feel better already. Had as many years doing it as you did. And I was feeling the effects, BADLY.
