Wouldn't you want to fill the block before machining?

  2. This comes next after a good internal cleaning 20201210_163851.jpg

  3. Not with this product.
Non shrink non swell formula just need to use a torque plate after filling and torque the main bolts to specification...

  4. Finished the piston fit and general cleaning of the block and crank. They are now back in my shop.
Ill clean the water jacket with a good soak with Vinegar and water for about 24 hours, flush with baking soda a couple times.
Then gently heat the block until dry inside. Level the block and mix and fill the block with non shrink filler.
Ill post photos as I go along

I used that stuff. It sure changed my block after putting it in.

  6. How did it change your block? Never used this product before. Any regrets?

Other than getting a lot heaver, the bores moved around some. I put it in before boring to size so it was OK. This was a +.060 455 Pontiac

  9. I have used this in a BBC. I poured and let it dry begore boring the block. Always a good idea. If the block moves it doesn't matter .....following your adventure.

  21. Also shipped the pistons and rod bearings to Calico for coatings. Thermal coating to piston tops and friction reducing material to piston skirts and bearings.

  22. I just got a PM from a guy who follows this post and asked if I had 2020 shirts left and wanted 2.
    Its from people like Mike
Who buy shirts that helps us purchase the parts and technology needed to keep advancing towards our goal of a record in XO/PP
    Thanks Mike.
    PS
2020 shirts are still available in
    LG
    XL
    2XL
    3XL
Sure would like to sell them....

  23. I called Calico Coatings today to check on the piston progress and low and behold they have not been delivered to them yet.
So I went to the post office and had them trace ther location and found that they were in a holding warehouse in Charlotte
NC. Have been there for several days now. Post office sayd that the whole country was backed up for weeks now.
So I called the USPS customer support to complain and that was a joke. They like most goverment bureaucracys could care less. There answer was we will get them delivered as soon as possible. Maybe another week. Well hell UPS, FED X, AMAZON DONT SEAM TO HAVE A PROBLEM ..
YOU CAN BET YOUR BACK SIDE THIS WONT HAPPEN AGAIN. USPS CAN KISS MY, WELL YOU KNOW..

This whole shipping logistics thing is beyond me. Amazon has several huge fulfillment centers all less than 10 miles away. They fly stuff I ordered into the old Norton Air Force Base which is just a stones throw away from the fulfillment centers. They load my order onto a truck at zero dark thirty to go into Los Angeles. It is then loaded onto a delivery vehicle to drive the 60 or so miles from LA back to Redlands. Doesn't make sense to me but they still deliver it when they say they will if not before. Had a package scheduled for delivery on Monday. When I opened the front door at at 6:30 Monday morning to check the outside temp the package was sitting on the porch. Amazon tracking said it was delivered at 6:17 am.

But better to find out now than before the engine is completed or even worse on the salt. Can't help you on a head but I'm confident that a HAMB'r will be able to help you out.

It would probably be a good idea to buy and prep two heads; one for a spare.
