When you come off the battery and go to your fuse block, are you relaying that line?

No relay, keep it as simple as possible.

I use circuit breakers - one for everything except the charging system, and one for the gen/reg.

I wire lots, don't like circuit breakers, in the event of a short, a fuse blows, you have to find it. A circuit breaker will stop, try again, stop, try again, they aren't dangerous, but in a simple wiring job, they can be a real pain.
Yes, the book from Jack Sweeden is a seriously good reference to own, simple yet comprehensive, get it.

  8. I like to run an 8 gauge wire for the fuse block feed. Probably overkill, but almost all wire in my Buick is "next size" up from recommended.

Good habit to get into. Overkill is good especially with wiring.

like that idea, plus super heavy insulation/fuel hose through any metal.

  12. Most harness kits come with a 50 amp maxi-fuse. Good enough protection for me.

The 50 amp fuse will protect the 8 gauge wire...won't do much for the rest of the wiring, though
