Ron..... Is the modified the cool one you were working on a few years ago? How about a pic?
There was a thread on here within the last year or so on how to widen some old Ford 17" or 18" wire wheels. Maybe someone can find it.

widened my 16'' on my T i just finished, used a early mustang axil w/5.5'' pattern, bolted rim to it and put in lathe, cut rim and then roled a 1/8'' x 1 1/2 wide band and welded it in, ran it on jackstands and runs true. widened on backside of rim, used a 48 rear and wanted to take up some of the xtra width between tire and body, used 7.50 x16.

I had my 35 wire widened at a machine shop that did a bunch of over the road truck stuff. I think they charged me $100 bucks a wheel. Although that was 15 years ago. They cut the wheel rolled a ring tacked it together and made sure it was true. They said they would not do the final weld because they didnt what to be responcible if something happened down the road.(pun intended) IMG_0126.JPG

If you are using the mechanical brakes be careful on widening to the inside! Does not take much to hit the brake rods- don't ask me how I know!
