Looks good! Whats next? If you keep moving the engine back, might have to sit in the back seat.

    Keep going.

  7. Great build up. Must be kind of liberating to start with so little - you can pretty much build it just how you want, and not have to worry about ruining anything or cutting stuff about.

    Hey guys.
Haven't had time to post here so here are some updates...

    First kinda mounted the rearend.

cut and rejoined the front '36 radius rods.
started on a double torque arm.
Gonna sandwich triple rubber bushings up front,
    (still missing the top bracketo)

Found the exhaust at the big 3, so decided to start that up.
    Very time consuming project!

    First had to make flanges...

Also decided to use black-pipe elbows instead of those sheetmetal ones.

    first tubes mocked up...

Funny cause the between these pics,
the whole firewall was cut out and rewelded,
it was a little skewed after squaring up the rear area.
Of course it was after the fenders and exhaust were installed!

The center port is larger , so used some scrap..

The tricky thing is the flange aren't bolt-ons like most engines.
    Like alot of early GM's,
they use a tall stud with T-clamps.
So a little triangle is welded on as the T-clamp base.

You can get the Detroit Diesel Green at your local truck parts supplier, or any place that sells and/or services class 8 heavy trucks.

    half done!

alot easier to pre-grind without the center tube.

    no "sellers quality" work here...

The angle is a little off on the front, so need to cut and reposition at the blue lines there.

Travis, this car rocks! I really liked your bellhousing thread, but this coupe is sweet. Love your engine choice, and those are awefully sweet headers. Keep up the good work!

lol! I've got one more hydraulic , and one more solid one on the way. I'm working on a tri-power, but after seeing your work, I should wait until you tackle it!

  23. back to work dooder. I have trouble finding my rhythmic breathing pattern when falling asleep if there ain't the dead, and grinding past 11. And no body want's a cranky shop dwelling caveman, or troll. I like troll better. Yes, shop inhabiting attic troll. Indeed.

the HAMB needs a "i not worthy" smile. i thought you were going to use that body as practice for your other 40 and not build a whole other car out of it:eek: looks awsome!

  25. Godam Zibo!! That's incredible. I don't know how I missed this thread! Can't wait to see it done.

These headers took a long time.
Actually it was probably only 3 good days work spread out over a month of afterwork nights,
and I thought I was keeping the "attic troll" up!
    signs of the attic troll...

These changed the build process alot,
instead of just bolting flanges on like most engines...
1-the 90 is tacked on, hopefully positioned toward the collector-pipe
2-the T is cut and stepped, hopefully there's enough gap between the 90 and the stud
3-then a little triangle is welded on to the 90, and hopefully it cinches down correctly.
4-then the typical header fitting can be done.
5- even though there's 6 pipes, its (x8) since the center hole is widened, and has 2 T's...

I really want to finish them off better and either nickel, chrome or ceramic-coat them.

    Thanks for the posts guys!
now on to the door hinges...

Oh. My. God. Unbelievable. You started with something that NOBODY would haver even considered remotely buildable, it's amazing. I thought my '36 was bad to begin with, and turned out pretty well, but this makes me want to start over. Great, great job.
