After looking at the 1940's hot rod thread it got me thinking. When and who made the first whitewalls?? Were they a factory item, sold in the aftermarket or a manufactures upgrade?

  4. Pretty sure most early automobiles were just all white natural rubber tires, which on its own doesn't hold up worth a damn and isn't that great for traction or endurance. So carbon black was later added to the equation on just the area meeting the road.

And just like that, we have a whitewall!

  5. True and I believe Michelin was one if not the first company to manufacture white tires. HRP
