I'm building a 29 A pick up with a 9" ford rear end . The rear en cam out of a 70's something sedan it's 60 " wide seems too wide what's everyone running for width on your rear ends ?? I might scrap this one and start new or cut it down
Don't scrap it, if you decide to go new, sell it... They are very easily cut down too, but sometimes it is just more economical to buy one that is already narrowed or just came from the factory in a narrower car. My Falcon has a 195? 9 inch in it, and it is 58" backing plate to backing plate. I will be narrowing it soon too.
Late sixties broncs have a 57&3/4" rearend one of the narrowest ford made. Not that hard to find them either.
I'd have to agree with the don't junk it comment. If you don't need it it will be just right for someone else. At the worst case it's real good trading material.
A 57- 59 ford should give you 57" with a 4 1/2" bolt circle, or a 65-66 mustang 9" [ if you can find one ] would give you 57" as well, or if you can live with an 8" there are lots available, it may not be financially feasable to cut down a rear end.
The Granada 8" is about 58.5 inches between wheel mounting surfaces. I know some Granadas where built with 9 inch rear ends but they are probably rare. An 8 inch will handle any power you could ever get to the road with that light of a vehicle. And if you want something that will launch, I have an ( almost new) 8" pumpkin with a gears set that is about 4.90:1.
I had mine narrowed 10 inches and rebuilt new Dutchman axles, bearing all for under $600. and I traded labor for that, for zero out of pocket cash.
