A little OT but I thought you might enjoy the pictures. This is a White Superior diesel 2 stroke engine built in the late 50's or early 60's. They had alot of applications but one of them was in locomotives to drive the electric generators. We use them for backup power.
Runs at a steady 900. Very inefficient by todays standards, but durable as hell, heard stories of one throwing a rod through the block and kept on going. Lot of steel rolling around, the crank weighs 2500 pounds by itself. Piston and Rod we guess are around 250 pounds.
I posted some pics a while back on another thread about a locomotive throwing a piston... Damn thing inbedded itself in a wall at somebody's house.... Lucky nobody got hurt!!
Can be kind of intimidating standing inside an enclosed room with these things churning away. We also have some Detroit Diesels V16 with dual turbos and dual superchargers. Also 2 strokes that run at 1800 rpms. Was standing on top of one one time adjusting the govenor we just replaced and it started running away with itself and we had a hard time shutting it down. No fun strattling superchargers on a run away diesel engine!!
