Technical Which way did they originally go?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Apr 13, 2019.

  1. We had a discussion today about which way the 1932 Ford windshield slides are orientated, do they point up or down?

And were they arranged different on the sedans verses the 3 windows? HRP

  2. I see them both ways, but a lot of the ones I see in hot rod or custom shots are up. I would go with the owner's manual rendering.

  4. I would think so, I wouldn't even had posted the question but yesterday I went to get some parts and when I got back to Dave's he had installed the slides and they were pointing up like in his 32 pickup and he insist that's the way they are oriented, I always had them pointing down. HRP

Put one up and one down and see how it works !
Why were the model A ones straight ? Whilst ‘32s are curved ?

    Mine use to point up.
Lately it takes alittle more coaxing.
    Can you tell I’ve retired?

  10. I found some reproduction '32 slides in a box of other parts (mostly Model A stuff) and I'll use them on my Tudor.

Don't know WHICH way I'll turn them now!!! :D

Based on Model A's I'd say UP, I think you have better leverage, or an easier time opening the windshield. But what do you guys with air conditioning care.

Is it because the 31 A piller is straight up and the 32 A pillar leans back some?

  13. I know the 32-34 Ford trucks orient them up but the slides are the same as a model A. HRP

I'd have to say down Danny. I'd be willing to bet that if we were able to walk into a Ford dealership in 1932 that's what we would see.

  17. The original 32 ford brochures show them pointing down, but if the top is chopped they sometimes have to point up to avoid hitting the top of the dashboard.

  20. I'm sure they don't have a hot rod magazine stuck inside a English text book like we did when we were in school. :D HRP

Does the S slot in the '32 arm have something to do with clearing the cowl vent? What would happen if you put straight Model A arms in there? Bob
