Hey, I can find all the small block numbers I can handle, but I cant find anywhere that I can decode the stamping and casting numbers for a big block online.

    Any help?

    Thanks
    Chris

Thanks, off the nastyZ28 site I got the casting numbers decoded.

    This gave me:

This narrows it down, but I still need the stamping numbers decoded to find what exact year it is and what it came in.

I googled it but I cant find a list of the stamping numbers for anything but sbc's.

Anyone know where I can find a stamping number decoder?

Btw, the numbers I have from the 2 396's are:

    T0903JA
    and
    T05IILB J260260

    Any leads?

    Chris

The year is cast into the blocks...rear of block, behind intake. A 10 9 (Jan 10th '69) for instance. The JA and LB will tell what they're out of, get a copy of Chevy by the numbers.

some early big blocks have the date code on the bottom, it's usually pretty hard to read.

The JA code is 69 chevelle 325 hp 396 with manual trans.

LB is 65 chev pass car 325 hp 396 with Powerglide.

    I'm assuming they're both actually 396 blocks.....

edit: here's a list of them on the interweb, you just didn't spend enough hours searching :)
