In the new Hot Rod magizine on page 94 it's got a cronological order (except '62) of Ohio George's '33 Willys. The article says he switched from an Olds to a Ford SOHC in '66 but i don't recall seeing any pictures of the car with an Olds engine. He ran a 402? inch Cadillac to start wth then a 375 inch small block Chevy but i thought he went to the 429 SOHC Ford after that before he switched to a Mustang body in '67.
That is why I stopped buying Hot Rod. I don't think they have any one over the age of 24 working there.
Caddy, SBC and Cammer in the Willys. Never an Olds. I hate to throw stones but Thom Taylor seems to perpetuate more myths than most, he needs to check his facts. BTW, when OG was told by Ford to run a Mustang for " brand identity " the NHRA told him a tube frame would not be permitted. Gas class rules mandated an automobile frame at the time and the Mustang was built using a modified Willys frame.
The SOCH engines were 427's FE's not 385 429's Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yep, I have never seen a photo of George with blue tinted windows. Plus (apart from the very early moon disc version) he always ran Halibrand rear wheels.
I have the EDN with the 4 42 Willys on the cover, it says Cates wins. I have always confused these two cars and wondered if George didn't sell the first 33 to Cates because the cars are identical and I own the steel cut/trimmed fenders from that car. And OG never ran an Olds it was a Caddy. Pat
