whats up with minnesota dragways???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by four-thirteen, May 13, 2004.

  1. Rumors have been flying around for more than a year about this thing. A couple of guys are trying to put together a new dragstrip south of the cities. does anyone know more to the story? the webite MN dragways seems flashy and hip, but with no real content towards progress. I'm sure one of the local guys know more about this. Are we actually going to get something here, or are the rumors just indeed, rumors? David

  2. they were planning on building it by medford,mn...right along I-35...about 8-10 miles from my house. my understannding is they had a deal on the land, but were denied a building permit.. there was a lot of support from the local car guys ,unfortunatley there was also a large group of people who voiced their concern over the noise and increased trafic

  3. I've heard that a location after the Medford site fell through because of finacing, but there is another one they are working on that looks very good.

I agree with thirtytwo & 36-window, it is not going to happen, at least not in Steele Co, too many codes and regulations and not enough supporters.

lots of hard core street cars in so-minn....i have a friend who has been talking about this for a year and a half..now he thinks its b.s. ....if he gave up .there is no hope...we are living in a time when race tracks and drive-ins are consisantly being tore down...

very few if any go up.........vegas is the only one i can think of right now.and thats in the deasert!!!!! liabilitys and all the b.s. who wants to touch'em??

lots of tracks that have been around since the 50s are getting closed cause the people who though it was a good idea to move next to a race track figure out it gets noisey when they race....go figure???

it would be nice if i was wrong but i think its just some people flappin there lips.......

  8. I know one of the guys on the MN Dragway board and they are determined to make it happen. The deal after Medford was suppose to be a great location but to expensive.

  9. There's a dragstrip sitting unused in Keewatin, MN. Have they looked into that ?

I believe that they want to be south of the twin cities, being the two main guys are from Fairbault I believe.

My old roommate along with a few others was working on a plan for one by Nicollet,MN(by Mankato). They had financing lined up, the land was available, they had the full support of NHRA(they were told to design it to national event specs). In the end, the neighboring town axed the idea. Too noisy.... A couple months later, after they found out how much income the town would bring in they expressed interest, but it was too late.
