I can see the top of a motor inside an old barn ..... it is almost completly buried . I did manage to get the following number off the block

    9794288

The number was on top of the block between the carb and distrubitor . The intake appears to rise above the block with an airgap between it and the block

Is this motor worth digging out ???

    Thanks !!!!!

Sounds like it could be an Olds, Caddy, Stude, Pontiac or Ford Y-block. If you can snag a pic I'm sure one of these guys can pin it down for you.

Rough guess----the "979" beginning of the number leads me to believe that it's a Pontiac.

many times you can google a part number and find out what it is. mostly Chevys though I have googled some Mopar numbers with some level of success.

yours appears to be someones phone number.

979 is Pontiac, as Heathen said, '68-'70

Oh, 49ratfink is right, too; it's the number of an automotive machine shop in Marlgate, FL!

Scrape the shit off of the passenger side front of the block, and look for a two letter code, such as YH or WT. Also, providing it is indeed a Pontiac, take note of the numbers/letters cast into the center exhaust ports on the heads--something like 16, or 62, or (starting in 1972) 7K3, 7M5, etc.
