I would have to say Hirohata. I remember when I first got into customs and it was one of the first cars I saw. This could become a poll thread and then we would really know, at least what HAMBers think.

The Hirohata is so famous because it was ahead of its time with the custom touches, like the curved side glass that was removeable to make it look like a hardtop.

Hirohata Merc, certainly. I suspect even non-car people picture it when somebody says "'49 Mercury".

It could be, but other cars had this as well. And Matranga's Merc came before the Hirohata...

This tread should read: What car has had the most ideas stolen from a Kustom car.

I have to say the most famous is the Hirohata Merc, but my favorite is the first version of the Moonglow. Ala Kart would be close, too. That's not counting the TV cars like Batmobile and Black Beauty.
Would Bond's Aston Martin be classed a custom? Probably not.

    :p Hirohata Merc!;)

  22. The most famous? Shouldn't that be self evident?

This is just another "what's your favourite custom?" poll with a different title.

Not to be a dick but if your going to say the Hirohata and then post a pic of a semi clone built from a 49 or 50 Merc and another that says he saw it at a show in 1950 when it wasnt even done yet...if my vote counts I will say the Golden Sahara but what do I know.
