Hot Rods What's the deal with Roadster Pick ups?

But why isn't "the deal" with all RPU's? Remember the convertible Dakota that Dodge did thru ASC? Dud. Seen any ASC conversions for late model pickups offered at the dealerships lately? Nope. Now I do see custom topless pickups now and then in the truck mags on the news stands, but they can't be that popular or everyone would be doing it. So why is it only the hot rods that have just the right appeal? Gary

I don't know that they're all that cheap... I know they're cheaper than some cars but most aren't that cheap.

  4. Like some others said...you get a truck and a roadster all in one. I have wanted one ever since I saw Dean Lowe's truck in Hot Rod 50 years ago.
I finally found one at a time when I had some money so now I have plans to make mine more to my liking.
    ps.....they ain't cheap.

  9. We all know that roadsters are inherently cool hot rods with a roadster pickup you have the best of both worlds,,a topless ride that doubles as a truck,,a win-win deal if ya ask me.

Look at Deans truck built 50 years ago,,it was as cool then as it would be today.

And if Neal's roadster pickup don't excite you,,you just don't like hot rods!! HRP

Here's my parts hauler, it doesn't haul very many parts and doesn't get there very fast but it sure is fun to drive.

yeah i love em ! as stated above i love the open air feel of a roadster and im a pickup guy so it's the best pf both worlds ! i can't wait to have mine back on the road this spring ! plus theres room to throw all your gear when you go on a run

  13. This is my new favorite RPU. :)

  14. A new/modern RPU and a built from scratch pre war rod are just like oranges and apples.
The old rod is well, a hot rod. Light, fast, simple, one of a kind. They just make you smile when you see one. Driving one has to be hot rod Nirvana.

  15. This is a photo of my brother-in-laws roadster pickup,,never restored and I've never seen it with the top down.

I'm hoping someday he decides to sell it to me.HRP

I've had my '29 in the build off and on for about 10 years now... At about 80% for about 3 years. It will be absolutely cool when it's done, but I never seam to have time to get that last little bit done. They have always been one of my favorites, so the incentive should be there! If you look past the Triumph chop, you'll see it back there. This is the view I see everyday from my louver press as I work. Tail view too for no absolute reason.

This is definitely one of my favorites of all time, GREAT picture! If you have any more old pics don't be shy!

I have always liked rpu's, there are many personalities they can take on. And a little less common to see than coupes, sedans & roadsters.

    Cool thread

It may not be the prettiest but it sure is cool and I have a blast driving the crap out of it. Feels like riding a Harley but only with the person next to you.
