    Hello,

Well, you are a long way from home… Los Gatos is a cool community back in the time when we were in San Jose, just up the roadway. One of our apartments in 1965 was on 11th street and was only a 10 mile drive to Los Gatos. Some of the kids I met were from Los Gatos and the area was right on the way to my favorite roadway back then… Highway 17.

The difference between San Jose proper area and Los Gatos in 1965 was interesting. We thought Long Beach was old. But San Jose retained a lot of old places that were converted to homes for students attending nearby San Jose State College. But, driving through Los Gatos was another whole ballgame.

Most of the town was old and the community was classic. Cool small shops, no central shopping downtown areas like San Jose or San Francisco. It was just a small community of nice old homes nestled in a green area of the Northern Cal location.

We went through the town many times on our way to Santa Cruz/Pleasure Point, cruising down Highway 17. The scenic highway to the ocean was a nice drive. But over the years, it was home to some awful accidents and now, a freeway barrier is in the middle. The traffic back then was open space and the aroma was no longer downtown San Jose, but country side whiffs.

So, if you travel on Highway 17, to go see the Pacific Ocean, be cautious on the drive. But, that Santa Cruz area was so enticing that my wife and I found a 5 acre plot up in the hills overlooking the ocean and surrounding views. It was priced right, but we let it get away as we drove North for more adventures and by the time we got back, it had a sold sign on it. The plus was the surrounding views and the short 8 minute drive downhill to some awesome surf spots in very cold waters most of the time.

Nice photo of the coupe on the highway… Stay safe…

  4. Cool story! Yea, I am out here for business and spent the last couple days driving around the area talking to customers that own and use the construction equipment we design. We have been to Santa Cruz, Paso Robles (now) and will head back to San Jose for the flight out. It is definitely a beautiful area and after talking to lots of folks out here, it has reminded me that California is a beautiful state with lots of great folks. Thanks for sharing your story in the area!

  15. Very deceptive pic here . Whats the sporty looking coupe thing  next to the model A  ? Wide doors, low roof, could it be something exotic and racy ?? Then comes the truth, it,s only a old Nash , does look like a two door though  .

  17. I seen possibly the worst appearing brake setup I've ever seen, but I guess filling the master cylinder would be pretty easy ha ha ha

Went to drop my wife off at the airport at 4 in the friggin morning. So I thought I'd stop by Denny's only to find no one there. Pulling though the parking lot there's an old tin Indian sitting in the parking lot with a trash bag covering the engine IMG_20230112_044350837.jpg
