It looks to be a 40 standard if those are wipers over the windshield, 41's where on the cowl. And yes someone did something to the grille area. People with 38's would put louvers in that area to aid in cooling but that problem was remedied in 39. Then 40 had grille inserts. Pat
There obviously have been some modifications...but the basic car is a 40 (standard) Willys. Besides very little trim on the hood the standard had a floor shift...the deluxe in 40, had more hood trim, and also was the first year of a column shift for Willys automobiles. Those are also not the 40 head light set up...probably a seal beam set up which started to get popular around that time. Don't know what the grille is from...only that it is not a 40 Willys grille. g-willys
