Buying wheels and tires for my 29 Sedan and would like Artillery but am having trouble finding 16,s with custom backspacing. Most artillery wheels are 15's but would like to use the Coker Excelsior or classic tires and they come in 16's.
Would like something a little different other than the norm.Wires would be great but they are quite expensive.

It is surprising I always thought the paint was the biggest headache to try and figure it out until I started looking for wheels.

Ok imagine this car now with triple dueces and no chop with a 32 chassis. That first pic is how it arrived on the 29 chassis.

Painted K-H bent spokes would be my choice or a good repro. I love real Buick Skylark wires but they are 5 on 5 only - what is your bolt pattern?

I would grab the '49 Ford 16" wheels and maybe have Wheelkid narrow them to 4.5". Then grab some 7.00's and 5.50's to wrap around them.

Ooh, niiice. I like those redlines with the Torq-Thrusts. Did you have those restored, refinished, polished, etc?

    He works at Rally America.

What style is your "A"? Artillery wheels are kind of the "in" thing for '40s style at the moment, and you mentioned wires, so that makes me think '40s?

Have you considered the wide-five adapters Speedway sells? Mount up some 16x4 '36-'39 Ford rims and hubcaps and you'd have a different, kinda artillery-ish look.

Wheels are the biggest thing to set the tone for a build, although they definitely can't carry the whole thing.

1935/1936 Dodge/Plymouth artillery wheels have 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern and are 16 x 4.5". Several types available as far as holes and hubcap fitment but if you want to run bias plies, there is no safety bead. I'm having Jason at www.earlywheel.com use the original centers with wider hoops for a build. Check out the thread 'ID Artillery Wheels' on the HAMB....

Here are some Buick Skylark wires on the Chuck Hoffman '28 roadster built by Fat Jack Robinson in 1978/79 - just killer....

  21. Reverse chrome 15x5 & 15x7 or similar be my pick

  22. Agree 100%. Everybody has their preference, but I think that Halibrands or straight-spoke Americans look good on everything. Your car is black, and a set of polished Halibrands would look killer.

I'm running 16" X 4.5" Mopar spare tire steelies. Very cheap...like $13 each from the junk yard (and they never saw the road).

    rpkiwi,
I struggle with the same indecision about many things on my cars. Here are some suggestions from Vern Tardell's book. I like them all but right now am really diggin the Ford wide 5s.

I'm liking those old milk truck wheels too.

p.s. Hey Fleetside. Your truck's lookin good. Your wheels are a good choice.
