I know this is kinda a dumb question, but I'm building a '34 Chevy fenderless truck (it's my first full build) and am wondering what most you guys run as far as sizing on the front. I want to run Model A's on the front, I picked one up yesterday at the local scrapyard only thing is it measures 18-1/2" across? Appears to be a '33-'34 from what I can tell. I want to run bigs and littles, and plan on running some older Fenton looking Torque Thrust style 15x8.5's on the back with whitewall slicks. Power is coming from a SBC 400 (it's what I have),backed with a Turbo 400 switchpitch, and Ford 9" rearend, going to run a transverse Model A rear spring, and a Model A front axle, drum brakes all around. Since meeting a local traditional hot rodder I have begin to lean towards the more traditonal building style, hence the Model A rear spring and wheels and drums. So what's too much as far as rim dia is concerned? Bring on the hate.:D

  2. model a spokes up front with torq thrusts on the back??? don't do it. two different era's.
i understand trying to be different, but not sure how that would look.

find a set of steelies or some other later wheel for that combo. i have 16" dragmasters on my truck with a chrome slot wheel on the front. more of a 60's feel.

Most people run a 16, 35 wire or 40 solid.

You could run an 18, like a 32 wire, but I think those look better on the back.

Were any of the model a wheels 18? I thought that they were all 19 and 21, but I don't really know.

    Ford Wire Wheels:
21" 26-27 Model T, rolled rim lips and exposed lug nuts, small teacup hubcap
21" 28-29 Model A, rolled rim lips and exposed lug nuts, small teacup hubcap
19" 30-31 Model A, conventional rim lips and exposed lug nuts, small saucer hubcap
18" 32 B & V8, conventional rim lips, lug nuts inside hub under hubcap
17" 33-34 4cyl & V8, conventional rim lips, lug nuts inside hub under hubcap
16" 35, conventional rim lips, lug nuts inside hub under hubcap

All are welded spoke steel wheels. All hubcaps from 32-35 fit all 32-35 Passenger and Pickup wheels.

Bolt pattern on all is 5 on 5.5" circle.

Thanks pasadenahotrod looks like this is what I have
18" 32 B & V8, conventional rim lips, lug nuts inside hub under hubcap. Yeah, Matt I hear ya, not sure how it's going to look,(gotta mock it up) I only paid $20 for the Model B wheel so if it looks too goofy, it's okay to hang on the wall. I want more of a '60s built feel to the truck. I'd like to see more pics of the rear of your truck, that's some impressive looking sheetmetal work looking pretty cool, is that a trunk lid I see in there? The local builder has 16's on his model A,looks good with em. I guess I was thinking with the wires on the front and torques on the back it would give it kinda a dragster look, especially if the fronts were a tad bit bigger in rim diameter.

  6. i think for that dragster look, you'd hafta do spindle mount. the bolt circle in early wires really negate that look. i get your thinking, though. mabye a photoshop would help decide?

Yeah, I been thinking of doing some photoshop work to decide between a 4" and 6" chop anyway. Thanks for the input.
