Duste01 got it. They're made out of an alloy commonly called "pot metal" which is mostly zinc and aluminum. The different qualities in the metals allow the carb to hold up to the vibrations it will be undergoing on top of a running motor.
Zinc (main ingredient of pot metal) or aluminum. Zinc is a lot heavier with a density of 7.13. The density of aluminum is 2.7. So zinc weighs about 2-1/2 times as much as aluminum. So that might help you guess what metal it is. Pot metal is zinc with some other junk mixed in, but still heavier than aluminum. The melting point of zinc or potmetal is pretty low compared to aluminum, so that's another way to tell what it's made of. They call it potmetal I think because you can put it in a pot and melt it on a kitchen stove.
