I saw Killer building this truck last year or so when I was at his place, and the caddy engine that was in it has been in the back of my mind since. I know nothing of caddy motors - other than that I really like the look of this thing - anyone?

    99% sure youre starin down a 331....

possibly 365 or 390, but something is tellin me 331

  4. It has the later style valve covers on it (365-390). The early style had Cadillac in a script style lettering.

It looks sweet - I could be convinced to ditch the flathead I was gonna build and go with one of these, if I could dig one up. Hmmm... just what I need - another monkey wrench in the project!

If those are stock valve covers (you could only guess), they started using them on the 1956 365 engine and on up to the 390s.

If you want a caddy motor you have to run the 365 or 390. The earlier ones are great if you have them, but if you have a choice go with the later. The rear seal on early ones leak really easy and are a pain, plus early ones had factory overheating problems until 1952.

...but the 331s (except for '55) get bonus points for being a LOT easier to find standard shift setups for.
