Maroon is the hardest color by far to get right. My favorite maroon is black but I'm lazy and don't like making decisions:D

We sprayed out 20 different panels of different maroons and burgandies trying to get one right and never did settle on one of them. It's alway too red, too brown, too purple, too orange, too pink....you get the idea.

Let us know what you pick

  5. 1976 Ford pickups had a good color of maroon. Friend of mine some years back painted a '40 ford with it looked like a stock color. Sorry do not have name or code, but there is a web site, tcpglobal, you can find this out on.

I agree, and wonder why two people so far would find this thread terrible and rate it one star...?

Moriarity, I never get tired of seeing your '61. That's a great color. You wouldn't happen to know the paint code, would you? That color would look great on my '64.

had one of these when i was in the navy around 1981, it was a 72 amc javelin amx, but mine had a gold stripe. that thing would shine better then most any other color i've had. now i wish i had it again.

When you say SOLID do you mean NOT a metallic (polychrome)?

This is definitely a matter of personal taste. For reference material, are you familiar with the web site paintref.com? Combine this with Google Image searches and you can get a pretty fair idea of what a color looks like. For example you're cruising paintref.com and '62 Corvette Honduras Maroon' catches your eye:
    http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?manuf=GM&model=Corvette&year=1962&rows=50
Then later see '65 Corvette Milano Maroon' and want to compare them:
    http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?manuf=GM&model=Corvette&year=1965&rows=50

Open google and do an image search for 'Corvette Honduras Maroon':
    http://www.google.com/images?um=1&h...ch:1&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&q=corvette honduras maroon
Make a mental average of all of them, then do another Google image search for 'Corvette Milano Maroon':
    http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&...no maroon&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi
Make another mental average. Flip back and forth.

You can play in Google Images for days. Find a color in Paintref.com and search for it in Google Image.

Besides the 'Vette Maroons, I like the mid 60's Ford Maroons:
    Royal Maroon PPG 50746
    Burgundy PPG 50657
    Vintage Burgundy PPG 50669
Another real popular color in the 60's was Emberglo PPG 22610, which is what my '59 F100 was painted.

If you want a more 'modern' look I like the '98 Ford:
    Dark Toreador Red PPG 5115
or the lighter Toreador Red PPG 5096. I used that on the roof of my freebie Skylark.
