Off and on, all summer I've been messing around trying to get the aftermarket cruise control to work on my coupe.
Way back in May I had a day to get it installed. That was when I discovered the "kit" didn't have everything needed to install it, had to order stuff. Took about a month to get the stuff I needed, and find time to mess with it. Got it all together, it didn't work.
It took a couple weeks before I had the chance to look at it again, discovered a new switch in the kit was defective. Took two weeks for the defective switch to make it where it had to go, and get the replacement back to me, but it took another week or more before I had time to mess with it again. Still didn't work!
When I had time again, I called the tech line, did what he suggested. Still didn't work. Called the tech line again, defective unit. Then it was the turn around time to get the new unit, and it it installed. After a quick 30 mile test, it appeared to be functioning.
Today we finally had a chance to do about a 100 mile ride and test out the cruise. Its the best its been, but I did have to rest it a couple times. It will just be cruising along great, then just quits working. If I shut it off and reset it, it works great until it just shuts off again. I'm probably done dealing with it this year. I suspect the problem is with the installer, or the installation.
On the good side, it was a very nice day for a ride. We started out at a local park and walked the dog, then took the dog home, and my wife and I went and got ice cream. Then with the temps in the high 60s, blue sky, fluffy white clouds, and a very light breeze, we started on the 100 mile cruise. Did I mention it was a great day to go for a ride?

Got a new steering wheel, free! A friend won it in at a dinner party raffle, accepted with a 'Gee, thanks for nothing' look. I walked over and asked to see it, he said "Take it, it yours". It's an old Superior 500, little rusty on the back side but perfect on the front.

I'm getting all geeked up. I just bought a steering double u-joint the sales guy says it's good to 80*. So I'm really hoping that solves a few issues.

  12. Started freshening up some 318 heads for the barracuda project until I ran into this….

I’ll throw another head in the hot tank today and see what it looks like. The crack extends past the seat otherwise I would just replace the seat. Oh well.

  13. And what ujoint was that one? I had bought one a while back and it introduced a lot of slop in the steering.

  14. Sorting out gaskets, ordering studs, washers and acorn fasteners for the permanently mounted valve covers, all the other covers were just temporary, seeing which I liked.

Then I gave it a sponge bath, first cleaning it's had in several years, the old roller job Rustoleum is still holding up well after 10 yrs

And got those 427 M/T's on the engine for good, rolled it over a few times to make sure the rockers cleared my trimmed downed drippers, all seems good to go.

I rebuilt the starter switch in my 1942 Ford. Now I don't have to use my hot wire to start the car each time I want to drive it!

Then I got my McGard (made in the U.S.A.) conical nuts in, so I put the Bart skinny slots on the Henry J

I re-patterned a pair of aluminum slot wheels, that I will use for the duration of the build, and road testing.

In my F100, I can’t seem to get the brakes quite right. It’s all new MC, shoes and drums all round and they bleed up well, but the pedal is only about 2” from the floor so when you brake it ends up on the floor before much happens.

I think I have them adjusted properly, shoes are just skimming the drums, any thoughts on this?

Adjust your brake shoes closer to the drums.

  28. See if this helps. Tighten the adjusters up as tight as you can get it; then back them down so the shoes lightly rub.

  30. Been a while that I got anything done on the car other than fender work. But; today I found a hidden out of the way place to hide a non-traditional electric thing and made some brackets to hold it there. Also managed to convince the repop glove box to fit the hole in the dash. My rear bumper guards came back and as soon as I find a little thicker gasket material they will be taillights. Now if my rear fenders would get out of the paint guy's jail house, I would have a lot to put together IMG20221019151109.jpg IMG20221019151120.jpg IMG20221019104805.jpg
