I have several sets of real American Torque Thrusts, but God only knows how old they are, and how many pot holes they have gone thru. I am looking at buying new ones. But they HAVE to look like the mid 60's style with the sharp spokes, not the rounded ones. These Yes... These NO!!!
American is remaking the old style and even in up to 17" or 18" now called TTO for torq-thrust original and if you want to sell any of yours let me know please! Thanks Bob
My buddy is running the American Racing repop's of the 15" T.T.O 's on his 66 Fury station wagon . They look great !
I love the shape of the rim edge in the pic of the old one... don't think any of the new ones look like that-
Unfortunately the so called Torq Thrust Originals or TTO's from Chinese Racing Wheels do not look like the original peaked spoke American Racing Torq Thrusts - they're just a cheap Chinese sortofalike. As others have said E-T or Vintage Wheel Works are best for an authentic looking wheel.
they look great! spin straight, easier lug nuts, cheap. . . . . . buy some! i have plenty of oldies myself i decided i wanted straight true "new wheels" on my 34 i drive everyday. $630.00 full set with nuts and old style caps delivered to the door. right off the bay.
Vintage Wheels look great, but they only have 15 x 8 and I need 15x10 for the slicks I want to run. American Racing TTO is 15 x 8-1/2. ET lists 15 x 10 with 3 to 6" of backspace for $355 each. So ET's it will be. and Hurst Pie Crusts
i've got some new radir bullet spokes 15x10 polished 5x4.5 bc $600 for the pair also have a pair of 15x10 ansen sprints 5x4.5 $250
i havent seen anything period correct . my fed : my altered : if you use correct wheels they can be chrome or aluminum wheels in back , but motorcycle type are mandatory on the front ............... steve didnt use pie crust then either . good ol goodyears . try to remember you are imitating the '60s & early '70s .
Like Steve said, check out your old ones and run them. I'm shooting for an earlier look and this is what I came up with. These wheels had some serious road rash that I cleaned up on my lathe. They are true and in great shape, even if old.
steve norcal - Huh? Where in this thread did 1Bad67 say he was imitating the '60s & early '70s? ... in the OP he stated "But they HAVE to look like the mid '60s style with the sharp spokes". Here's 3 pics of mid '60s FED's (from my Fremont Drag Strip ... PICS from 1964!!! thread): ... and all 3 are running ("sharp spoke") Torque Thrusts with pie crust slicks. EDIT: D'oh! Looks like Kerry beat me to it! ... I guess I need to learn to type faster!
Thats the look. 140" WB, '64 to '65 right at the transition to full bodies. With an injected Pontiac motor.
Vintage Americans or Ansens. In the early 60's Catalogs the 8" wide wheels was for street use while the 8.5" wide were strictly competition use. Couple that with some Inglewood 8.20 x 15" SLicks and you'll have yourself the right combo for a proper FED.
I am running a set of the TTO's on my '50 and have been for over 6 years. Don't know what the deal is with the "Made In China" comment. They do say "Made in USA" cast into the back. There 15x5 on the front and 15x8 on the rear. Hard to find 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern. I found them from a supplier up in Ohio. They look great and have the sharper edges. I get lots on comments on them.
Here are my old soon to be my new again Ansen 8.5" wheels mounted on 8.20 recapped 60's slicks. This would have been the wheel found on a mod 60's FED....
