Yes that's right, straightening the middle cold meant that The shape was pushed out by putting an equal and opposite force on the damage to push it out. I could have done it hot.

Saturday fellow car club member Phil (monkeybiker on here) dropped off his '27 tourer body. I now have something to copy for the cowl and firewall panels. Drove a good few miles to drop it down to me too so thanks very much Phil, much appreciated.

Friday I painted the sandblasted brake backing plates and other parts. I will paint them gloss soon. I am not after a show car here, I am building a car not a showpiece so a good finish is all I want on any parts, little chrome and no grinding off the forging marks on the axle and that sort of thing.

Hi Jim thanks for commenting. It was a bit stressfull 'cos I had not done one like this and axles are not that easy to get here if I had mucked it up.

zman, thanks, I am glad you like my build, like I said at the beginning of this thread I am motivated by posting my progress on here, embarrassment of not getting on with it keeps me moving forward.

  14. The axle looks good David! That was a good project to do on a cold winter day.
Well, now that you have your pattern for the body you can go crazy on the sheetmetal.
    Work your magic!

Cheers Bob, I wish I could have bought a firewall but looks like making one will be my next job.

started on the firewall onthursday evening and got some more done yesterday. I will post some photos soon.

My mate Glen came yesterday and cleaned up both my rear axles. I am working today but I have to work on a customers car so I will have to finish the firewall next week.

As promised here is a photo of the firewall so far... to this point it is made from two sections ( actually three but two make up one because my steel was not long enough if you see what I mean). the sections are gas welded together. I was very pleased about how accurate it came out, I had to work from the firewall still in place in the body and it would have been easier to make if I had a separate firewall to take patterns from.
I plan on making the rest of it soon.

Will you make and show the process of making bucks? I have the same cab and plan to copy it as well - it is to be my 1st attempt at making a body and i am unsure of how to 'get there'.

If you have the original panels to copy you do not need to make bucks- I will be showing how I make the bun panels in this way as soon as I have time to make them.

Probably going to be a few weeks though, 'cos I am jumping from the body to the chassis. I have the firewall to finish first and the cowl to make and the doors to make before the body I borrowed has to go back to its owner. The bun panels will be down the list because I own the ones I am copying, the rest has to go back as soon as possible.

  28. If it's any help Dave I may have some spare Tourer rear doors...?

    Hi Phil,

I will try to get all the info I need from your body while I have it but I will leave the doors to last. I dont know if the rear doors from a tourer are the same as the front ones for a roadster but you mentioned that you had some rusted out front doors, these would be fine as patterns if you need your body back before I have all the information I need.

    Cheers,

    David

Did you see I started to make the firewall? (above)
