welding on a 59 dash????

    i wanna weld up the speaker hole and a couple others on the 59 dash i just got, but have been told that its 'pot metal' and that you cant weld it...it looks like regular steel to me..but before i F it all up..anyone done this before???

    '59 Dashes are not made of pot metal...the instrument cluster is however...and parts of the column...you should be able to seal the speaker hole by welding, but since I know not where the other holes are ...

    Well, I just reread your query...and assumed you were talking of '59 Chevies...altho it doesn't say in the post...is it a '59 Chevy?

    Stick a magnet to the dash where you want to weld, if the magnet sticks, you should be good to go. If there is still glass in the car, protect it from weld splater or it won't be good anymore. Please use caution when you weld inside a car, they can catch on fire real quick. Gene

    I welded up the Ac/fan switch plates on mine and all that other stuff along the bottom....so yes you can do it....JAMIE

    Quite simple. Like any light gauge metal you weld, cheat the system, cut some strips of light gauge metal and use them as filler behind your weld.

    WTF? You don't have any bungee cords? Obviously your not married. Good luck with that.

    oh ive got a couple...but never used them like that..
