Mr. Jere Sheehan passed away in Florida with his wife and daughter by his side yesterday. Jere founded the Camsnappers car club in Newburyport, Ma. in March 1952. Shortly after he helped found the New England Hot Rod Council along with other New England car clubs. He was elected president of NEHRC. Jere helped get the Sanford, Me dragway up and running. He was an integral part of the opening of New England Dragway in Epping, NH also. Jere was president of the Camsnappers from it's inception in '52 to present. He had countless stories about the old days that would keep us on the edge of our seats (even if we heard it 10 times already) He had a 34 Ford roadster that he bought as a kid. He owned that car for over 60 years. It had all kinds of drivetrains over the years- flatheads at first then Oldsmobiles, including J2 power. Jere was a hot rod hero around here for decades, he will be missed.
From what I've heard and read over the years, if you were an active member of the New England hot rod community you were in pretty tall cotton, and that smile says it all. Hopefully some of his enthusiasm for hot rodding and wisdom was passed down.
Thanks for sharing - Sincere sympathy goes out to yourself, all of his friends, and especially his Family
This is hitting close to home, very sorry about the news. Maybe Jere can get St Pete on the right track and get a bit of organization going on up there.
Jeez, sorry to hear that. He was a big piece of New England history. I thought he was going to be around forever, he came mighty close!
