Hi , I am the proud owner of a 1941 ford super deluxe fordor . I got the car at a good price and am currently trying to free the flathead .it came with an offenhauser 4 barrel intake and WCFB carb is it worth rebuilding ? it looks good the carb that is . the flathead appears to have been a fresh rebuild 17 years ago that is how long it sat . original owner dropped it off for window seals and passed away .also evans heads and Lincoln v12 distributor converted to 8 cyl. any info would be appreciated .
WCFB is a good choice for that application, if the brass tag is under one of the lid screws you can gets rebuild kits for them.
Some will tell you they aren't the most fun to rebuild but it should be pretty close to the right size for that engine cfm wise. Kits are easy to find as they fit the Early Chevy V8 and other early GM V8 engines.
The Carter type WCFB carburetor is an excellent 4-barrel design. Not quite as sophisticated as the later (1957) Carter AFB, but it still uses metering rod technology. The key is to use a WCFB from a comparable sized engine. The WCFB was manufactured in several different sizes. Using a carb from too large an engine MAY cause idle issues, cruise issues, and a hesitation transitioning from primary to secondary. Of course, if this is to be a "race-only" vehicle, you won't have the above issues. Jon.
