For the past couple of years I've been looking for a service manual specific for the 1957 year Chevy 235 motor. I've been to swap meets, garage sales, flea markets and searched Craigslist, Ebay, and other internet sites but have not had any success. I'm looking for either an original or reprinted manual. I can find plenty of manuals for Chevy's 216 and 261 motors but not the 235. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!
My 1955 Chevrolet shop manual has an extensive section on the 235. There's also "How To Hop Up Chevrolet & GMC 6 Cylinder Engines" which is a Floyd Clymer book - my copy is dated 1951. "Fix Your Chevrolet" byBill Toboldt covers both 6- & 8-cylinder5 Chevrolet engines. Mine is copyrighted 1958.
Here's an on-line version of the '55 shop manual. Should have everything you need for your '57. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1955/55csm0601.html
strange, I've found a few used original 57 chevy truck shop manuals on ebay cheap, but it has been a few years. Now that there is that link to the 55 shop manual on the TOCMP site, your search has ended
