    What kind & year car does Jess the mechanic fix up for Mr Tibbs in that movie?
    Early 50’s Chrysler ?

    One of my favorite movies. I love those two scenes Sidney Poitier did..."They call me MISTER Tibbs" and the slap scene.

    1954 Coronet, 241 Red Ram hemi, Gyromatic transmission. My brothers had one in the '60's.

    Can't you see Archie Bunker playing the part of the Chief, if it were a Comedy, I do!! Even if it wasn't a comedy, Archie would still be "The Man"!

    Carroll O'connor ("Archie Bunker") played the chief on the tv series of "In The Heat of The Night".

    Rod Steiger was the police chief in the movie.
    That 60 Plymouth that the "good ol' boys" were driving was cool too, ugly as hell but cool.
