I believe this is the 1956 Indianapolis 500 winning car after it was converted into a supermodified. I'm not sure but I think that may be Buddy Cagle driving. At some point the car was converted back into its Indianapolis roadster configuration and displayed at the Zink museum. If someone here knows more about this I would welcome the input.

Your right about Cagle being the driver. I frequently visited the Zink shop back in the day and I don't remember the indy car being converted to a super but it might have. Denny Moore usually would build a new car from scratch.

Growing up in SoCal in the 1950's, I remember seeing the usual amount of Rambler dealers. Never once did I ever see a Nash Rambler dealer, and I've always wondered why. I'm sure there must have been some Nash dealers somewhere. The funny thing is that I never used the word "Rambler" when mentioning the car, it was always "Nash Rambler" or "Nash Metropolitan", or "Pontiac Grand Prix" or "Chevy Impala" or "Cadillac Eldorado" or "Ford Thunderbird"...

    Hey G,

IN 1959-65, The original Severin Rambler dealer was located near the original Cormier Chevrolet Dealership on Long Beach Blvd in Long Beach. We bought our 58 Impala and the 65 El Camino at Cormier Chevrolet, before they moved to the location off of the 405 freeway near the closed Lions Dragstrip. We were mostly, Chevy and Ford enthusiasts, so the Rambler dealer catered to the working man and families, not teenagers.

The dealership was near our high school, but those cars were not for teenagers. Economy cars, yes, but, we wanted power and style for cruising. Besides, gas was extremely inexpensive and plentiful.

    Found:

"Severin Rambler has been your Rambler dealer for 15 years. WE WILL NOT IE UNDERSOLD! SEVERIN RAMBLER 630 Long Beach Blvd. HE 6-9007 Open All Day Sunday. If you want top economy in your next car, see your Rambler dealer--he sells the car with clear title to America's economy championship."

SEVERIN RAMBLER 1310 Long Beach Blvd. HE 4-9007

“The COMPACT RAMBLER is a proven car, with BILLIONS of miles (plus a few experimental "bugs") behind it. A THINKING MAN'S DEALER. SEVERIN MOTORS has been conscientiously serving Long Beach for 24 years (since 1936) offering the best deal possible on a new I960 Rambler with the “highest trade-in allowance…”

"...174 Autos for Sole SEVERIN RAMBLER CARLOADS OF 1960s ON DISPLAY WIDE CHOICE OF MODELS AND COLORS Comparison Invited . / Cost Forgotten . . . . ! Competition Desired. / TWO SHOWROOMS 630 Long Beach Blvd. HE 6-9001 1310 Long Beach Blvd. HE 6-9007 ..."

A THIRD SHOWROOM OPEN IN JULY 1960:

SEVERIN RAMBLER 15737 Bellflower Blvd. Open Sunday
