Ratican, Safford, Gaide FED at Lions Dragstrip

The Ratican, Safford, Gaide FED was a fast race car. The team was from the LA Valley area and were the terrors of the local So Cal dragstrips. During the time period of the above photo at Lions, they were also chosen to be in one of the Bikini Beach, Frankie and Annette film.

In 2017, I found the FED resting nicely next to the entrance to the Price Transfer, Lions Dragstrip Museum.

Harry's Hot Rod... it is still there. Click the URL and you can see the Google Maps street view. You can see exactly where this pic was taken. The T/F car in the older pic would be sitting on the sidewalk right in front of the painting of the dragster.

 

Just has to be a good story behind the wrecked Cobra pics.

 

HOW LARKS ARE MADE....REALLY FAST LARKS!!!!!!

 

Can't remember if I've already posted this one...

 

These kinds of accidents were not always the fault of the push car driver. The problem was that the push bar on the dragster (almost always a rear engine car) did not stick out far enough in the back. When the push car had to push the dragster through a turn (like in the pits), the front of the car could contact the rear tire of the dragster, causing the car to ride up over the top of the tire. I have seen this happen several times...
