Don't see many Mopar 2-door wagons of this era much any more...too bad.

    Pretty sure that's Malcolm Campbell.

Here's a pic of him driving a Bugatti.

Edit: Written before seeing the other posts. Interesting, though the google image search of then original pic did not mention Malcolm Campbell.

Edit2: Even a google image search of "Malcolm Campbell" does not include that image.

That's not an average garage. This was a very rich man's game. We're spoilt now with all the power tools we have at our disposal.

I do own one. One that was assembled in Belgium, Europe. It's rare in the US, it's extremely rare in Europe.

    Pretty sure that ain't Smokey.

This pic was originally posted by Bill Bottorff and was from Winfield High, Kansas. Bill posted the pics many years ago and I hosted them on my "Mart's real hot Rods" site. (Which has unfortunately slipped into webspace oblivion). A google image search of that image seems to throw up many people referring to the fellow as "Smokey" but I am pretty sure it ain't him, amd it is becoming an internet myth that it is.

Here is a page of Bills pics, hosted by Kustomarama:

Great pics, I've long admired the pics you have been posting. Would you care to elaborate on how you came to be custodian of such great candid shots? Are these the pics sometimes watermarked "Jack Butler collection"?

Is this the world's first (and worst) custom? Or the first anti-IOD equipped Ford? Gary

My grandfather's photo of the craneway at the Highland Park plant soon after it was finished. He worked directly for Ford's Chief Engineer, Edward Gray, who was responsible for the layout of the plant and worked with Albert Kahn in the design. As far as I know, this is the only 'personal' photo of the interior from that period, c. 1914. Finished cars are on the third floor to the left, a stack of brooms to lower right (Mr. Ford was neatnik you know!). Not long after this the platforms were enclosed, I imagine parts would be rolling off there and hit someone in the head! PS: I don't know who the 'boss man' was top right. craneway copyright-sm.jpg

Of course grandpa bought a Model T for himself c. 1915 but only because when his boss, Henry Ford's Chief Engineer Edward Gray, left Ford he moved his operations to near the Detroit River. Gray developed 'Grayhaven' over there were Gar Wood built his mansion there in the 1920s. first ford-sm.jpg

Ha! Funny you should say that! When I first found the photo I didn't know where it was. I thought it was from one of my dad's photos somewhere in Germany during WWII but my brother tracked it down.

Rentz-Sanders_0002.jpg chauffeur.jpg So while my mother's father was working for Edward Gray at Highland Park, my dad's father came to Detroit about the same time and was a chauffeur for about ten years- Grandma had to have a picture by the car too.

  24. That's what I would thought if you didn't have a description of the photo.
    Nice stories. Thanks for sharing.

From what I understand that's great grandpa's 1919 Cadillac, great grandpa to the right and his wife sitting inside and my grandmother on the running board. 1919 Cadillac -crop.jpg

And a stop for gas along the way- one cousin had a gas station in Delaware and other was a rather famous 'pit stop' in eastern Pennsylvania, Bill's Place with so many pumps and the ramp on the left side for quick repairs and oil changes. 18094157513_5eb0e32225_o.jpg 18526617388_2b7e46906a_o.jpg 18714432065_29bb277002_o.jpg
