Also known as Salimander's. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they weren't still in use to protect orchard crops from freezing. They burn stove oil or diesel.
We still use them here in southern Oregon for the pear trees. We can here the fans pushing the heat from those around in the evenings.

Kids today have no idea what hard times are. Most have had everything dropped in their lap so have no idea of what it takes to survive. But they are going to find out bye and bye.
